Immigration Court Hearings and ICE Arrests

We published a post on our Instagram site about the dangers of the current administration's intention to expand its use of "Expedited Removal" or "ER." (Please see the Ig post for more on what ER is.) What has transpired since then is that ICE has started, in various parts of the country, to arrest individuals when they are at their Immigration Court hearings. Expedited Removal is a completely different immigration process than Immigration Court. While there was some concern that ICE would begin to cancel individuals' Immigration Court proceedings so that they could initiate ER against them, the strategy of using court hearings as a sort of trap for respondents takes enforcement action to an entirely different level. The American Immigration Lawyers Association swiftly responded with a flyer on these arrests and more information on what ER is (and how to protect yourself from arrest if you are not subject to ER). Read the flyer below for helpful information. Contact an experienced immigration attorney if you need help determining whether you might be subject to ER.
